Modric's previous deal expired at the end of June but he was still keen to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu into a 13th season.

The 38-year-old Croatia international joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspurs in the summer of 2012 and has made 534 appearances in his time at the club, scoring 39 goals.

Last season, Modric won his sixth Champions League title with Los Blancos and his fourth La Liga title since moving to Spain.

Following Nacho Fernandez's departure from the club at the end of the 2023/2024 season, Modric will captain Real Madrid in what is likely to be his final season at the club next term.

"Real Madrid CF and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains tied to the club until June 30, 2025," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Modric joined Real Madrid in 2012, and in his twelve seasons defending our shirt he has become a legend of Real Madrid and world football."

On an individual level, Modric won the prestigious Ballon D'or award in 2018.
