Today In History: Gary Neville Sacked By Valencia After Four Months In Charge
Gary Neville was relieved of his duties as Valencia manager after just four months on this day in 2016.
The former Manchester United and England defender was chosen as a replacement for Nuno Esperito Santo but lasted just 28 games in charge across all competitions which brought 10 wins.
Among his eleven defeats at the helm was a 7-0 thumping at the hands of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
Under Neville, Valencia dropped from ninth to 14th on the table and his first win in the top flight came at the 10th attempt.
Neville said in a statement on Los Che’s website: “I would like to thank Valencia, the fans, staff and the players.
“I would have liked to have continued the work I started. But I understand that we are in a results business and in the 28 games they have not been to my standards or to those which are required by this club.”
Valencia failed to keep a clean sheet in Neville's 16 league games in charge.
