Exiled Chilwell To Be Re-Integrated Into Chelsea Squad
Ben Chilwell is to resume training with Chelsea's first team squad after he failed to secure a move away from the club this summer.
Chilwell was part of a number of senior players at Stamford Bridge who were told their futures lay elsewhere by manager Enzo Maresca.
While the likes of Raheem Sterling, Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga have secured permanent or temporary moves away from West London, Chilwell remained and was made to train on his own.
The 27-year-old, signed from Leicester City for £50m in the summer of 2020, has battled knee and hamstring injuries in recent seasons and is behind Marc Cucurella and Renata Veiga in the pecking order at left-back.
With the transfer window now shut across Europe, Chilwell has been included in Chelsea's 25-man Premier League squad and will resume training imminently.
"Ben is now probably the only one that is still here. We are going to sit with him and find a solution," Maresca told reporters ahead of Saturday's trip to Bournemouth.
"He is probably going to be back with us in a training session... The reason why he is training apart is because the idea was for him to leave.
"But because he didn't find a solution, he is probably going to start to train with us. In the moment, if we decide that, he is going to be one of the players."
Chilwell has helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League during his time at the club.
