Como Snap Free Agent Sergi Roberto On Two-Year Deal
Former Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has joined Serie A new boys Como as a free agent, signing a two-year contract.
Roberto ended his 14-year association with the Barcelona first team this summer when his contract expired.
The 32-year-old made 373 appearances for Barcelona, winning among others two Champions League trophies and seven La Liga titles.
Como, managed by Roberto's former Barcelona teammate Cesc Fabregas, lost their Serie A opener 3-0 to Juventus on Monday.
"Sergi has played his whole career so far at one of the best clubs in the world," Fabregas told the club website.
"He is a versatile player and can adapt to many different positions, midfield, full-back, with his passing accuracy and strength he is the definition of a box to box player.
"His experience will be crucial for the season ahead."
“I see this as a new challenge in my career, I really believe in the project, I met the owners and they are very excited about this, I think they are doing the right things and I’m happy to be part of it,” the player said in a statement on the club website.
“When Cesc first contacted me, he explained to me the ambitions of the club coming from lower divisions all the way to Serie A in five years, and his ambition as a coach. So it’s exciting for me to come and be part of the growth of the club.
“I think I can help achieve the goals of the club with hard work and I’m looking forward to getting started”.
