Van Nistelrooy Leaves Man Utd Following Amorim's Arrival As New Manager

Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford this summer on a two-year contract to join Erik Ten Hag's coaching team.

But the Dutchman was sacked last month following an underwhelming start to the 2024/2025 season and Van Nistelrooy was tasked with holding the fort temporarily.

Van Nistelrooy won three and drew one of his four games in charge of his former side but Amorim has chosen to bring his own backroom staff from Portugal, leaving no space for the former prolific frontman.

Van Nistelrooy spent five years of his playing career at Manchester United, scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances.

"Ruud is and always will be a Manchester United legend," the club said in a statement.

"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford."
