Lee Carsley Rules Out England Call-Up For In-Form Greenwood
Interim England manager Lee Carsley has ruled out calling in-form Mason Greenwood to the Three Lions squad.
Greenwood is enjoying a terrific start to the season at new side Olympique Marseille, having struck five goals in his opening three Ligue 1 games.
The 22-year-old joined Marseille from Manchester United in excess of €30m this summer.
Greenwood's time at the Red Devils was deemed untenable after allegations of attempted rape and assault against his girlfriend came to light in 2022 and he spent last season on loan at Getafe in the Spanish La Liga.
Greenwood won one cap for England in 2020 but it appears issues about his private life will prevent him from adding to his appearances at international level for the foreseeable future.
"Mason (Greenwood) wasn't a player that we can consider, to be honest, no," Carsley told the media.
"I'm aware of how he is doing but he wasn't under consideration."
England opened their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over Republic of Ireland on Saturday.
Greenwood is reportedly considering switching international allegiance to Jamaica.
