Chelsea Suffer Fresh Reece James Injury Blow
Chelsea captain Reece James has suffered a fresh injury blow that will rule him out for an unspecified period of time.
Manager Enzo Maresca delivered the bad news in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea facing Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
James suffered a hamstring injury in training this week.
A combination of knee, hamstring and ankle injuries have derailed James' progress in recent seasons.
The 24-year-old made just 11 appearances in all competitions last season and has appeared four times this term after missing the start of the season with injury.
“Reece felt something and we don’t want to take any risks for the weekend,” Maresca said.
“It’s a hamstring. It was two days ago. Hopefully it’s not something long. He has to be out for sure this weekend and then we’ll see. At the moment we don’t know how long.
“It’s not easy [for James] but if every time he is getting an injury it becomes hard for him, for me it’s even worse. He has to try to avoid it as much as he can. But sometimes things happen even if you want to avoid them.”
