Brentford Defender Ben Mee Ruled Out For Rest Of Season With Ankle Injury
Brentford defender Ben Mee has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Mee picked up the injury in Monday's 4-2 defeat to West Ham United following a challenge from Mohammed Kudus.
The 34-year-old has joined a long list of absentees for Thomas Frank's side ahead of Saturday's visit of Chelsea.
Brentford are 16th on the Premier League table, just five points above the relegation zone and also face the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Brighton in their next five fixtures.
“More negative (news),” Brentford head coach Frank said on Friday.
“Unfortunately, Ben Mee is injured and out for the rest of the season.
“That is our entire first-choice back four from last season (injured). Ben Mee got a fracture to his ankle in the contact he had against West Ham.”
On Brentford’s recent form — 10 defeats in their last 12 games — Frank added: “Last year around this time, we were in a 12-game unbeaten run and everyone thought, ‘Wow Brentford are the best’.
“We are the same staff, same owner, same manager, same players, so why is that that we have lost 10 out of 12? Sometimes it’s not as good performances, sometimes margins and momentum going against us and definitely injuries. I’m sure you all saw the story on Sky, we have the second most injuries in the way they have calculated it.
“I potentially have seven starters out, but we have a good squad and players. It’s the depth in key positions which makes it tough. That’s life, it’s up to me and the players to find a way out of it and we will. We are ready to fight and we need the fans.”
