Salah To Miss Two AFCON Games With Hamstring Injury
Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Egypt's final Africa Cup of Nations group stage game against Cape Verde on Monday.
Salah will also miss a potential round of 16 game if Egypt manage to advance past the group stage.
The Liverpool forward limped off with a hamstring injury in the first half of Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday.
An official statement from the Egypt FA read: “The X-rays that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent showed that he suffered a strain in the posterior muscle.
“He will miss the team’s next two matches in the African Nations, against Cape Verde and then the Round of 16 match in the event of qualification.”
Egypt have two points from their opening two games at AFCON 2023 and will need to beat already-qualified Cape Verde to get a spot in the knockout rounds.
Salah scored a late penalty to salvage a point for the Egyptians in a 2-2 draw with Mozambique in their opening game.
