Messi Wins 2024 MLS MVP Award
Lionel Messi has been named as the most valuable player in America's Major League Soccer for 2024.
The 37-year-old scored 20 goals and laid on 16 assists for his teammates in the MLS regular season despite playing just 19 games in total.
Messi garnered 38.43 percent of the total votes cast, beating the likes of Cucho Hernandez, Luis Suarez and Christian Benteke to the award.
The MVP award is determined by a poll that includes players, club technical staff and selected members of the media.
Messi is the fifth Argentine to win the MLS MVP award after Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Christian Gomez.
"Truly, it is an honour for me to receive this award from all of you," he said to academy players during a surprise ceremony at their Chase Stadium.
"It’s a source of pride to watch you all train.
"I’m very happy to be here every day. I’m very happy to be in this city, in this club that is growing… It’s a pleasure to see you grow day by day. I invite you to keep fighting and striving for your dreams."
