Fit-Again Courtois Misses Out As Belgium Name EURO 2024 Squad
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is the most notable absentee in Belgium's 25-man roster for EURO 2024.
Courtois has missed much of the 2023/2024 season after suffering two serious knee injuries but has returned to action for his club in the final weeks of the campaign and made four appearances in La Liga, keeping clean sheets in each one of them.
Courtois could even start Saturday's Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
But Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco said last month that the former Chelsea goalkeeper will not be on the plane to Germany due to a lack of match fitness.
Courtois has enjoyed a frosty relationship with Tedesco in the past year following a captaincy row.
Courtois has won 102 caps for Belgium since his debut in 2011.
Speaking on Tuesday, Tedesco said: "Courtois was very clear and honest and early in his communication. The latest information we received is that he is not ready for the European Championships. He knows his body best."
The Red Devils play Romania, Ukraine and Slovakia in the group stages of EURO 2024.
