Eddie Howe Reveals No Contact From FA Over England Manager's Job
Eddie Howe has revealed that he was not contacted by the Football Association about the England national team manager's job.
Earlier this week, former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel was named as manager of the Three Lions.
The FA said they interviewed 10 people for the role and Howe was one manager many had tipped as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate.
The Newcastle United manager is one of England's brightest coaches but the German Tuchel becomes the third foreigner to lead the Three Lions after Sven Goran-Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
"No, I wasn't," was Howe's reply when asked on Friday by reporters whether he had been interviewed for the England job.
When pressed on if there was any contact from the FA, he added: "No."
When asked if he was surprised he wasn't contacted, Howe said: "Absolutely not. I think England have to do what is right for them and only they will know the processes they have gone through and the decisions they have made, and I'm certainly not the type of person that is going to analyse that.
"For me, it's about Newcastle and trying to win games, and it is hard enough to do that if you are 100 per cent focussed. I will always remain that way to my work.
"But I know if you drop your levels or your focus the job becomes impossible, and at no stage have I allowed myself to do that."
