England Name Thomas Tuchel As New Manager
England have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.
Tuchel has signed an 18-month contract and will begin his new role on January 1, 2025.
The former Chelsea manager will permanently replace Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after EURO 2024.
Interim manager Lee Carsley, who took charge over the last two international breaks, will again lead the Three Lions during the November internationals before returning to his post as England u-21 boss.
Tuchel becomes England's third foreign manager after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
Tuchel was unattached after leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
He will be assisted by Anthony Barry, who was his assistant at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
Tuchel said: "I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
"Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud. I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark [Bullingham] and John [McDermott], for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together."
