AS Roma Win Race To Sign La Liga Top Scorer Artem Dovbyk
AS Roma have won the race to sign last season's La Liga top scorer Artem Dovbyk from Girona.
A reported €38m have exchanged hands for Dovbyk to move to the Italian capital as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who has returned to parent club Chelsea after his loan deal expired.
Dovbyk topped the La Liga scoring chart last season with 24 goals in 36 games as Girona finished third in La Liga to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund were all interested in signing Dovbyk.
The 27-year-old Ukraine international only joined Girona from Dnipro last summer.
"Last season was fantastic for me, but the time had come to take a step forward," Dovbyk said after his transfer was finalised.
"[The pressure] will be different. Girona are a small team in Spain; Roma are an important entity in Italy with a lot of history.
"It won't be the same. I know the pressure will be there, but football without pressure isn't football."
Roma finished sixth in Serie A last season.
