Ex-Chelsea Manager Villas-Boas Elected As New FC Porto President
Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has been voted as the new club president of Portuguese giants FC Porto.
Villas-Boas' ascension ends the 42-year reign of Jorge Nuno Pinto Da Costa.
The 46-year-old is making a return to the Estadio Do Dragao, where he spent a season as manager in the 2010/2011 campaign, winning the Portuguese League title, Portuguese Cup and Europa League.
Villas-Boas has since gone on to manage Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Shanghai SIPG and Olympique Marseille.
Villas-Boas claimed 80.3% of the votes to win the presidency and marked his victory by saying, "Porto is free again."
"I hope to correspond fully to the demands of all Portistas: to win, to lift trophies and to build a sustainable club for the future," Villas-Boas said.
"We have a long mission ahead of us. It will take arduous work in a house that has to be restructured, sorted out and reorganised."
“I want to convey my gratitude to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa for everything he has given to our FC Porto, the life he gave to FC Porto and guarantee him that it will always be his home.”
FC Porto are third on the Primeira Liga table and were knocked out of the Champions League at the round of 16 stage by Arsenal.
They play Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Cup final on 26th May.
