Sporting Lisbon Confirm Man Utd Interest In Ruben Amorim
Sporting Lisbon have confirmed that they have received an approach from Manchester United for their manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United sacked manager Erik Ten Hag on Monday following a poor start to the season.
Former striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been placed in interim charge for Wednesday's League Cup tie against Leicester City.
Amorim has a contract with Sporting Lisbon until the summer of 2026.
The 39-year-old has a release clause of €10m which United are prepared to pay.
"Manchester United have expressed their interest in recruiting coach Ruben Amorim and have said they are ready to pay the 10 million euro release clause," Sporting said in a statement to Portugal's financial regulator, the CMVM.
Amorim has been Sporting manager since March 2020 and has led them to two Primeira Liga titles.
Sporting Lisbon have won all nine of their league games this season, scoring 30 goals and conceding just twice.
Manchester United's next league match is against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.
