Teenagers Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were on target for the Red Devils in the first half while Jeremy Doku pulled one back for the English champions three minutes from time.

The win ensures Erik Ten Hag has won a trophy in each of his two full seasons in charge at Old Trafford despite much of the pre-match talk centering around his future at the club.

Manchester United have now won the FA Cup 13 times in their history.

For Pep Guardiola's men, it was a rare off day as their big men, including Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden all failed to fire.

A defensive mix up involving goalkeeper Stefan Ortega and Josko Gvardiol put Garnacho clean through on goal to tap into an empty net in the 30th minute before Mainoo finished off a slick passing move nine minutes later to put United in control.

City huffed and puffed but United were resolute in defence until Doku's speculative long drive beat goalkeeper Andre Onana at his near post in the 87th minute.

But City could not find an equaliser despite seven minutes of added time as Erik Ten Hag's got the last laugh, with his future still hanging in the balance.

The win ensures Manchester United will play in the Europa League next season following their eighth place finish in the Premier League.
