Dele Alli Targets England Spot For 2026 FIFA World Cup
Dele Alli says he is targeting a place in the England squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Once the darling boy of English football, Alli's career has sadly tailed off in recent seasons.
The 28-year-old is currently on the books of Everton but has not played this season due to off-field issues and fitness problems.
His last appearance at club level came in February 2023 while on loan at Turkish side Besiktas.
Alli has won 37 caps for the England national team but his last appearance for his country was in 2019.
The two-time PFA Young Player of the year joined Spurs from MK Dons in the summer of 2015 and impressed particularly in his first two seasons at the club, reaching double figures for goals in both campaigns.
His form dropped off in his final two seasons at Spurs and he struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Esperito Santo and Antonio Conte before joining Everton in January 2022.
"I have a reminder on my phone every single day at 11 o'clock - World Cup 2026," Dele told Sky Sports.
"People will be like 'he hasn't played in a year' but that's my aim. I know where my level is."
"It has just been an injury issue - one that I am hopefully getting to the end of. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel," Alli added on his absence this season.
"I have had to be patient and it has been a long journey with the injury, a lot of ups and downs.
"It has helped me grow even more as a person. To have those opportunities to grow myself, the pain of the injury is something I can channel when I am back."
Alli helped England reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
