Corinthians Sign Free Agent Depay On Two-Year Deal
Brazilian side Corinthians have signed Memphis Depay on a two-year contract.
Depay was a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
The 30-year-old was left out of the Netherlands squad for the current international window due to a lack of match activity but he remains a key cog for his country according to national team manager Ronald Koeman despite dropping down to an inferior league compared to Europe.
"I disapproved of Steven Bergwijn's move to Saudi, with Memphis it can be different," Koeman told reporters on Monday.
"The level of the league in Brazil is different, so yes, he can still be part of the national team, but it depends on his fitness and if he reaches his level."
Koeman recently ostracised Steven Bergwijn from the national team for joining Saudi Pro League side Al- Ittihad.
Depay has played for the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Olympique Lyon and Barcelona in his career.
He has 46 goals in 98 caps for the Netherlands national team.
