Cristian Romero Criticises Spurs Board Over Lack Of Spending
Tottenham Hotspurs defender Cristian Romero has taken a swipe at the club's board over a lack of spending.
Spurs finished fifth in Ange Postecoglou's first season in charge last term but have failed to kick on in the current campaign after a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea over the weekend saw them drop to the bottom half of the table.
Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2008 and sold star striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer.
They brought in the likes of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall this summer but have won just once in their last seven games across all competitions.
"Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn't do well, strengthens again, and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate," said Romero to Spanish TV Telemundo Deportes.
"You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they [the board] realise it."
"The last few years, it's always the same - first the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it's always the same people responsible," the Argentina World Cup winner added.
"Hopefully they realise who the true responsible ones are and we move forward because it's a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."
