Lookman received his award at the Confederation of African Football awards ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco on Monday.

The 27-year-old was the overwhelming favourite after a standout year for club and country.

Lookman scored three goals as Nigeria reached the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations final, losing to Ivory Coast but earned a redemption in the Europa League final, scoring a hat-trick as Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen to win their first European trophy.

The former England youth international also finished 14th in this year's Ballon D'or rankings.

"This award is a blessing, to be recognised as best player in Africa is something incredible," Lookman said as he picked up the trophy.

"Four years ago my career felt down but now I'm here as the best player in Africa. Don't let your failures stop your dreams."

The former Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham, RB Leipzig and Leicester City man is the sixth Nigerian to win the African Footballer Of The Year.

Victor Osimhen won the award last year.
