Borussia Dortmund Name Nuri Sahin As New Manager
Borussia Dortmund have wasted no time in finding a replacement for Edin Terzic as they named Nuri Sahin as new manager on Friday.
Terzic stepped down from the Dortmund hotseat on Thursday just two weeks after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid.
Sahin only joined Dortmund's coaching staff in January this year following as spell as manager of Turkish side Antalyaspor.
The 35-year-old had three spells as a player with Dortmund, making 274 appearances at the club and winning the Bundesliga title in the 2010/2011 season.
Sahin has signed a three-year contract to lead Dortmund next season.
"It is a great honour for me to be head coach of Borussia Dortmund. I would like to thank everyone in the club's senior management team for the faith they have shown in me, and I am hugely looking forward to my new role at BVB," Şahin said in a statement.
"From day one we will do everything we can and work with energy and passion to make this club as successful as possible."
Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: "Nuri Sahin helped us reach the final of the UEFA Champions League last season. He has the experience here as a player and assistant coach to know how BVB works -- and above all he knows how to be successful."
"With his natural authority and expertise he has a good relationship with our team, and he knows what we need to work on collectively. Nuri has our full confidence and our full support."
A former Turkey international, Sahin also played for Liverpool and Real Madrid during his active days.
