Barcelona Sack Xavi A Month After U-Turn
Barcelona have sacked manager Xavi Hernandez just a month after he rescinded his decision to leave the club.
Xavi announced in January that he will be departing the club at the end of this season amid a poor run of results but was persuaded to stay on by the club's hierarchy in April.
But recent comments by Xavi regarding the club's dire financial situation have prompted a change in direction.
Xavi will take charge of Barcelona for the last time against Sevilla on Sunday.
A statement from the Catalan club read: "FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world."
Barcelona are second on the La Liga table, 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid and were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint Germain at the quarterfinal stage.
Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman as Barcelona manager in November 2021 and won the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga title in his first full season in charge.
Xavi won eight La Liga titles, four Champions League trophies, three Copa del Reys among other honours during his time as a player at Barcelona.
He also won two European Championships and the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain.
