Uruguay Lose Ronald Araujo For Rest Of Copa America
Uruguay defender Ronald Araujo has been ruled out of the rest of the Copa America after suffering a muscle injury against Brazil.
Araujo lasted just 33 minutes before being replaced by Jose Maria Gimenez as Uruguay beat Brazil on penalties after a 0-0 draw to advance to the semi-finals.
Uruguay face Colombia early Thursday for a place in the final against Argentina but will have to do so without the Barcelona defender.
A statement from the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) explained: "In the quarter-final match of the 2024 Copa America against Brazil, footballer Ronald Araujo had to be substituted due to a physical problem. After the studies were carried out, it was confirmed that it was a muscle injury."
Reports from Spain indicate that Araujo will be sidelined for two months, meaning he will miss the start of the 2024/2025 season for Barcelona.
Araujo has won 20 caps for the Uruguay national team, scoring one goal.
