Troy Deeney Sacked As Forest Green Rovers Manager After Just Six Games In Charge
Former Watford captain Troy Deeney has been sacked as manager of League Two side Forest Green Rovers after just six games in charge.
Deeney was appointed as player-manager towards the end of December but failed to win any of his six games, drawing three and losing three.
The 35-year-old's ill-fated spell also saw him land a four-game touchline ban earlier this week for misconduct.
Last week, Deeney called out his players publicly following a 2-0 home loss to Harrogate.
Forest Green have dropped to the bottom of the League Two table and are now seven points from safety.
"Forest Green Rovers and head coach Troy Deeney have today decided to part company. The search for a new head coach will begin straightaway," the club said in a statement.
Rovers chairman Dale Vince said: "These are decisions nobody likes to make, but we have acted this way to give Forest Green Rovers the best possible chance of improving results and climbing the league table.
"We wish Troy all the best for the future and thank him for his efforts."
Deeney is best remembered for his 11-year stay at Watford, where he scored 140 goals in 419 appearances.
