Henry had returned to the Emirates Stadium on a two-month loan deal from New York Red Bulls to provide cover for Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh, who went on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively.

Henry's goal at the Stadium of Light came as a 91st minute winner as Arsenal prevailed 2-1 to enhance their top four credentials.

The former France international remains Arsenal's all-time top scorer, with 175 of his goals coming in the Premier League.

In his first spell with Arsenal, Henry won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and won the golden boot in England four times.
