Thiago Alcantara Officially Retires From Football At 33
Thiago Alcantara has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33.
Thiago was released by Liverpool earlier this summer after his contract expired.
Regarded as one of the most gifted playmakers of his generation, Thiago was troubled by injuries throughout his career.
He only made one appearance for Liverpool last season because of fitness issues.
Thiago came through Barcelona's famed La Masia academy and won four La Liga titles plus a Champions League before leaving for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013.
At the German giants, Thiago won the Bundesliga title in each of his seven seasons at the club and added another Champions League crown in the 2019/2020 season.
He joined Liverpool in September 2020, making 98 appearances and winning the FA Cup in the 2021/2022 season.
“I will always be willing to give back what I have been given and I am grateful for the time I have enjoyed it,” he said in a social media post confirming the decision to retire.
“Thank you, football. And to all who accompanied me and made me a better player and person along the way. See you soon.”
Thiago won 46 caps for the Spain national team.
