Real Madrid Sanction Sale Of Joselu To Qatar Side Al-Gharafa

Joselu spent last season on loan at the European champions, scoring 18 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, including a brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final second leg.

Real Madrid activated their option to sign Joselu on a permanent deal earlier this week but have now sold him to Al-Gharafa for €1.5m.

With the likes of Endrick and Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid next season, competition for places was a factor in Joselu's decision to move.

“Real Madrid CF, after making effective its option to acquire the rights of the player Joselu Mato against RCD Espanyol, has reached an agreement with Al-Gharafa SC for the transfer of our player,” the statement from the club read.

“Real Madrid would like to thank Joselu for his professionalism and his Madridism, and would like to express its affection for him and his family, wishing them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives,” the club statement concluded.

Joselu leaves Real Madrid with La Liga and Champions League honours.

Joselu is currently with the Spain squad at EURO 2024.
