Rakitic Leaves Saudi Arabia After Six Months To Join Hajduk Split
Ivan Rakitic has joined 15-time Croatia champions Hajduk Split on a one-year contract after just six months in Saudi Arabia.
Rakitic's contract has the option for a further year.
The 36-year-old joined Al Shabab in January following the end of his second spell at Sevilla.
Rakitic made just eight appearances and scored one goal for Al Shabab before deciding to move on again.
Born in Switzerland to Croatia parents, this will be the first time Rakitic will be playing in his home country.
“HNK Hajduk is particularly pleased to confirm that Ivan Rakitić will wear the white jersey next season! One of the greatest players in the history of Croatian football, shortly before midnight, signed a contract with Hajduk until the end of next season with the option of additionally extending for another season,” writes Hajduk officially announcing Ivan Rakitić as their new player.
Rakitic won 106 caps for Croatia and was part of the squad that finished runners up at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Rakitic won two Europa League trophies with Sevilla and enjoyed a six-year spell at Barcelona between 2014 and 2020, which brought four La Liga titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2015.
