PSG Defender Lucas Hernandez Ruled Out Of EURO 2024 With ACL Injury

Hernandez picked up the injury in Paris Saint Germain's 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old joined PSG from Bayern Munich last summer and has made 41 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals.

Hernandez has already helped PSG retain the Ligue 1 title but he will play no further part in their quest to win Europe's premier club competition for the first time.

"Lucas Hernandez suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee after coming off injured during the Champions League match," a statement from the French champions read.

"An MRI scan carried out today confirmed the diagnosis made by the club's doctors on Wednesday evening.

"The player will undergo surgery in the next few days."

Hernandez added in a post on his official Instagram account: "When I signed with PSG, I made a promise that I would give my heart and soul to this team and this is what I have done ever since. Unfortunately, during last night's match I ended up with an injury."

"I pushed myself back onto the field and tried to keep on fighting for our team, but it was not possible. My comeback will be stronger than ever before."

France have been grouped alongside Austria, Poland and Netherlands at EURO 2024.

Hernandez was a key part of the France side that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
