Nani Announces Retirement From Football At Age 38
Former Manchester United and Portugal winger Nani has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38.
Nani's career spanned nearly two decades at 10 clubs, including three different spells at Sporting Lisbon.
He most recently played for Portuguese side Estrela, where he featured 10 times this season,scoring once, and had a contract until the summer of 2025.
But Nani has decided to call time on his decorated career with immediate effect in an emotional social media post on Sunday.
"The time has come to say goodbye, I have decided to finish my career as a professional player," he wrote on social media.
"It's been an amazing ride and I wanted to thank every single person who has helped me and supported me through the highs and lows during a career which lasted over 20 years and gave me so many unforgettable memories.
"Time to turn a new leaf and focus on new goals and dreams."
Nani notably spent eight years on the books of Manchester United, winning four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League, among other honours.
The former Portugal international also played for the likes of Valencia, Lazio, Fenerbahce and Orlando City.
Nani won 112 caps for Portugal and was part of the side that won EURO 2016.
