Xabi Alonso Praises Leverkusen's Mentality After Victory Over Inter Milan
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was delighted by his side's mentality as they ended Inter Milan's unbeaten start in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Bundesliga champions produced one of their customary late heroics as Nordi Mukiele struck home a 90th minute winner against the Italian champions.
Leverkusen's 1-0 win has taken them to second on the Champions League table as Inter Milan's defence was breached in Europe for the first time this season.
Leverkusen are now on a six-game winning streak across all competitions.
"I think we played a very mature and complete match," Alonso said.
"Against a team like Inter, managing emotions is crucial because they are a dangerous side with multiple playmakers controlling the game.
"It required a significant mental effort, but we successfully dictated the play, created many opportunities, and conceded just one.
"Yes, we respect Inter a lot, but we wanted the victory. We played our game with maturity and determination, and I believe our win was well-deserved.
"I always try to instil this mindset in my team: to attack until the very end."
