More Defensive Headache For Ten Hag As Martinez And Lindelof Sustain Month-Long Injuries
Manchester United defensive pair Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof have been ruled out of action for one month due to injury.
Lindelof picked up a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw with Brentford over the weekend and was replaced in the game by Martinez, who has subsequently sustained a calf problem in training.
Martinez had just returned from a seven-week layoff with a knee issue.
The pair's absence gives manager Erik Ten Hag another piece of defensive headache ahead of crucial games against Chelsea, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Coventry in the FA Cup.
With the likes of Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia also out of the picture, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire are Manchester United's only fit central defenders.
In a statement on their website, United wrote: "Manchester United centre-backs Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for at least a month due to muscle injuries.
"Sweden captain Lindelof was withdrawn during the second half of last Saturday’s Premier League game against Brentford with a hamstring problem.
"Victor was replaced by Martinez after 69 minutes, as the Argentina international made his first appearance since early February.
"Unfortunately, Licha has now sustained a calf strain in training and is unavailable for the next few games."
