Mbappe To Join Real Madrid As A Free Agent This Summer

Mbappe has already told Paris Saint Germain he will not sign a new contract when his current deal expires this summer.

The 25-year-old will sign a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Although Real Madrid are not expected to pay PSG a transfer fee, it is anticipated that the deal will be the most expensive free transfer in history.

Mbappe was benched over the weekend when he communicated his intention to leave to the PSG hierarchy but still came on as a second half substitute to score against Nantes.

"This will be the most expensive free transfer in history," said Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol.

"The money that Real Madrid would have been paying as a transfer fee, they are basically going to be paying to the player instead. He will be getting a massive signing-on fee - there are reports in Spain that it could be over £100m."

Last summer Mbappe was left out of PSG's pre-season tour after he told them he will not be signing a renewal.

Mbappe joined PSG initially on loan from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017 and is their all-time top scorer with 244 goals in 291 games.

PSG accepted a world record £259m bid from Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal last summer but Mbappe rejected a move to the Gulf State.
