Martinez Hails 'Statement' Aston Villa Win Over Bayern Munich

Substitute Jhon Duran's clever lob over Manuel Neuer in the 79th minute saw Aston Villa end Bayern Munich's 41-game unbeaten run in the Champions League group stages at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have now started their first Champions League campaign in 41 years with two victories from two after a 3-0 win at Young Boys in their opening game.

"It's unreal. It's a night that we will remember for a long time. It's a statement," said Villa's World Cup-winning goalkeeper.

"[The noise] was hurting my ears. This is a club that's moving forward. I love playing here. I love the fans."

Duran has now scored five goals off the bench for Aston Villa this season.

"He's an excellent substitute," Martinez said of the Colombian.

"The first time he touched the ball, he chipped Neuer – one of the most beautiful goals in history."
