Lockyer collapsed on the pitch in the 59th minute with no one besides him, prompting a quick response from the medical staff of both sides.

The game was 1-1 at the time the incident happened and was called off moments later, with both sides not in the right frame of mind to continue.

This is the second time Lockyer has collapsed on the field of play, having also been forced off in similar circumstances in May's Championship playoff final against Coventry City at Wembley.

A club statement read: "Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher.

"He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides.

"Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.

"We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks."

The 29-year-old defender has made 15 appearances for Luton Town in the Premier League, scoring one goal.
