Kompany Replaces Tuchel As Bayern Munich Manager

The former Belgium international has signed a three-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany replaces Thomas Tuchel, who left his role as Bayern Munich boss at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old was in charge at Burnley but they suffered relegation from the Premier League this season, finishing in 19th position.

"It's a great honour to be able to work for this club - FC Bayern is an institution in international football," said the former Manchester City defender.

"As a coach, you have to stand for who you are as person: I love having the ball, being creative – and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous. I am now looking forward to the very elementary things: working with the players, forming a team. If the base is there, success will come.”

"We all at the club agree that Vincent Kompany is the right coach for FC Bayern and are very much looking forward to working with him," added Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

The Bavarians are coming off the back of a disappointing season which saw them go trophyless for the first time in over a decade.

Bayern Munich finished third in the Bundesliga and lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

As a player, Kompany joined Man City from Hamburg in 2008 and starred for eleven seasons, making 323 appearances and captaining the side to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups.
