Kobbie Mainoo Handed Maiden Call Up Into England Squad
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has won his first call up into the senior England national team.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been one of Manchester United's best players this season, making 20 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals.
Mainoo has been capped at youth level for England but is still eligible to play for Ghana through his parents.
England will play Brazil and Belgium in international friendlies in the upcoming week.
A statement from England read: "Kobbie Mainoo has received his first call up to the England men's senior squad.
"The 18 year old was initially part of the MU21s squad but has been drafted into Gareth Southgate’s group.
"All other 25 players reported to St. George’s Park on Tuesday ahead of the forthcoming internationals against Brazil and Belgium.
"Manchester United midfielder Mainoo has previously represented England at MU17 through to MU19 level."
Mainoo's call up boosts his chances of getting selected for the upcoming European Championship in Germany this summer.
