In-Demand Benjamin Sesko Signs New RB Leipzig Contract Until 2029

Sesko has penned fresh terms that will extend his stay at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2029.

The 21-year-old joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg last summer and scored 18 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal were looking activate his £55m release clause but Sesko will be staying put in Germany for now.

Sesko had a strong end to last season, scoring one goal in each of the last seven Bundesliga games of the season.

"Benjamin Sesko joined RB Leipzig a year ago as a top talent and has developed exceptionally well with us," said RB Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schröder.

“Especially in the second half of the season, Benji showed how important he is for our game and how many qualities he has as a complete striker. Eleven goals in the second half of the season and recently scored in seven games in a row: That's an outstanding rate and shows that he's already one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga - and he's only 21 years old.”

Sesko added: "The team, the club, the city, the fans - the whole package remains outstanding for me. The contract extension is the logical step for me.

“Even though I didn't play as much and didn't score as many goals in the first half of the season, this phase was very important for me and my development. I feel a lot of trust and appreciation from the whole club and that is crucial for me to perform at my best. Especially in the second half of the season I was able to give something back with my goals,” he added.

“We have a team with great potential and a balanced mix of young and experienced players. I really want to take the next steps with this team. We have already achieved a lot in my first season and have often shown the quality and outstanding football we can put on the pitch. But there is still a lot to do and that is now our common goal.”

Sesko is part of the Slovenia squad at EURO 2024, where they will play Denmark, Serbia and England in the group stages.
