Hansi Flick Confirmed As Barcelona's New Manager On Two-Year Deal
Barcelona have announced former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick as the club's new manager.
Flick has signed a two-year contract to replace Xavi Hernandez, who was sacked after Barcelona's final La Liga game of the season against Sevilla on Sunday.
"FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men's first-team football coach until 30 June 2026," a club statement read.
Flick was unattached, having been sacked as manager of the Germany national team in September 2023.
The 59-year-old was Bayern Munich manager when they trounced Barcelona 8-2 in the Champions League quarterfinals en route to winning the trophy in the 2019/2020 season.
Flick also won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup during his time in charge of the Bavarians.
"It's a big honour and a dream for me to sign my contract here in Barcelona, with this amazing club," he told the club's media channels.
"The club is unbelievable. In the hours I was here in Barcelona, it has been amazing. Everyone loves the club and wants to have success.
"The philosophy they have for the club, it's similar to mine, with more possession and really attacking football. These are the things I love.
"Barcelona has one of the best academies in the world, a mix between some of the best players in the world and young, talented players.
"I won some titles with Bayern Munich and my hunger for titles is really big. I would like to stay on this path with Barcelona and I think we can achieve a lot together."
Barcelona finished second in La Liga this season, ten points behind Real Madrid and exited the Champions League at the quarterfinal stage to Paris Saint Germain.
