Guardiola Thanks Outgoing Klopp For Pushing Man City To Higher Levels
Pep Guardiola has credited outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for pushing his Manchester City side to higher levels over the years.
Guardiola guided Manchester City to a record fourth straight Premier League title on Sunday following a 3-1 win over West Ham United.
Klopp is the only manager to prevent Guardiola from winning the title in each of the last seven seasons, with his triumph with Liverpool coming in the 2019/2020 season.
However, there have been some tight title battles between the two managers over the years.
Klopp is leaving Liverpool this summer and the German has described Guardiola as the best manager in the world.
Guardiola has been equally effusive in his praise of his long-term rival.
"I will miss him a lot," Guardiola said of Klopp as his voice wavered.
"Jurgen has been a really important part of my life. He brought me to another level as a manager. We respect each other incredibly.
"I have the feeling he will be back and thank you so much for his words but he knows that behind me there is a lot that this club provides me with, otherwise alone I can't do it. I'm humble enough to understand that.
"He helps me with his team, he has been a huge competitor in my life. I didn't discover the way I can punish them like I can find for other teams. With him it has been so difficult."
