Former Watford Captain Troy Deeney Appointed Player-Manager Of Forest Green
Former Watford captain Troy Deeney has been appointed as player-manager of League Two strugglers Forest Green.
Deeney only joined Forest Green as player-coach in August and has scored four goals in 16 appearances.
The 35-year-old has however been fast-tracked into the senior role after Forest Green sacked manager David Horseman.
Forest Green are second from bottom on the League Two table and can only boast two wins in their last 14 games.
“I am very pleased and honoured to be appointed as the new head coach,” Deeney told the official Forest Green website.
“I know the fans will have many questions, which will be answered as soon as possible.
“We will not hide from the task at hand and will be open and honest along the way.
“One thing I can assure everyone is that we will work our very hardest to bring this wonderful club back to success.
“This is an exciting new role with many challenges that I’ll embrace and there’s a lot of work for us to do, which has already started.”
Deeney is best remembered for his 11-year stay at Watford, where he scored 140 goals in 419 appearances.
His first game in charge will come against Gillingham on Friday.
