Fermin Lopez Extends Barcelona Contract Until 2029
Barcelona have announced that Fermin Lopez has extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2029.
Lopez has gradually become an important member of the Barcelona squad after breaking into the first team under Xavi Hernandez last season.
The 21-year-old has started Barcelona's last two games against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, highlighting his importance to manager Hansi Flick.
Lopez made 42 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals, and earned a spot in Spain's victorious EURO 2024 squad as well their Olympic Team's gold-winning exploits at the Paris Olympic games.
This season, the La Masia academy graduate has played six times.
An official statement from the La Liga leaders announcing the deal read: “Barcelona and Fermín López have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract through to 30 June 2029. The young midfielder’s buyout clause has been set at 500 million euros.
“Pen was put to paper this Thursday at midday in the company of Barça president Joan Laporta; first vice-president Rafa Yuste; the director responsible for youth football Joan Soler; and director of sport Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’.”
Lopez added: “For me it is a dream come true, the dream since I arrived at La Masia. I am very happy for myself and my family, to be in the first team and in the club that I have dreamed of as a child.”
“I have fought a lot to get here and I have to enjoy it. I have lived it very naturally, it is true that I have had to be very patient, it has been a slightly longer and more difficult path, but this year I have achieved great things, unforgettable, and I hope to continue achieving more. To be able to help the club as much as possible and that both I and the entire team can win many titles.”
