Enzo Fernandez To Miss Rest Of Season For Chelsea Following Groin Surgery
Enzo Fernandez will miss Chelsea's final six games of the season after undergoing surgery on a groin issue.
The Argentina international has made 40 appearances across all competitions in his first full season at Stamford Bridge, scoring seven goals and registering three assists.
Fernandez has been playing through the pain in recent games and has decided to go under the knife in order to gain full fitness for Argentina's Copa America campaign this summer.
A club statement read: "Enzo Fernandez has today undergone successful surgery on a groin issue and will now begin a period of rehabilitation, sidelining him for the remainder of Chelsea’s 2023/24 season.
"The 23-year-old midfielder will work with the club's medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham."
Fernandez adds to Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino's injury headache, joining the likes of Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia and Levi Colwill on the sidelines.
It has been an underwhelming and frustrating season for Chelsea, who will finish the campaign trophyless and are currently ninth on the Premier League table.
Chelsea will face Aston Villa on Saturday as they aim to secure European football for next season.
