Egypt Sack Head Coach Rui Vitoria After AFCON Exit
Egypt have sacked manager Rui Vitoria following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Egypt drew all four games in the Ivory Coast, culminating in a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the round of 16.
Vitoria was appointed in July 2022 and had a contract until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 53-year-old former Benfica and Al Nassr manager will be replaced on an interim basis by ex Al Ahly boss Mohamed Youssef until a permanent replacement is found.
In its official statement, Federation said: "Following today's meeting, the Governing Council of the Egyptian Football Federation decided to discuss technical and administrative reports on the participation of the national team in the Côte d'Ivoire 2023 African Nations Championship, to thank Portuguese Director of the Egyptian Team Roy Vitoria and his associate body, while studying the curricula of foreign coaches and presenting them at the next meeting."
Vitoria has become the latest casualty of the tournament, following the departures of Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi, Gambia's Tom Saintfiet, Ghana's Chris Hughton, Tunisia's Jalel Kadri, Tanzania's Adel Amrouche and Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset.
