Edin Terzic Quits As Borussia Dortmund Manager
Edin Terzic has quit his role as Borussia Dortmund manager with immediate effect.
Terzic recently led Dortmund to the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley, where they were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid.
The 41-year-old was in his second spell as Dortmund manager, having taken interim charge in the 2020/2021 season to lead them to DFB-Pokal glory.
Terzic returned as a full time manager in the summer of 2022 and led Dortmund to a second place finish in the Bundesliga, albeit missing out on the title on the final day to Bayern Munich after failing to beat Mainz 05.
Last season, Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga before losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League showpiece.
In a video message to fans, Terzić stated: "Even though it really hurts, I want to inform you that I will leave BVB today. It was a huge honour to lead this club to a DFB Cup final and recently a Champions League final.
"After our final at Wembley, I asked the club bosses for a talk, because I've been at BVB for over 10 years now, with five as a coach and two-and-a-half as head coach, and I have the feeling that our new beginning should also come with someone new on the touchline.
"After intense discussions, my feeling hasn't changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best. It's not goodbye, but till next time."
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke commented: “Edin Terzic has done an outstanding job in his time at BVB, and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Edin and I will always remain friends.”
