Brazil Sack Manager Fernando Diniz After Less Than A Year In Charge

Diniz was appointed on an interim one-year contract last July as Brazil sought a permanent replacement for Tite, who stepped down after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Brazil were expecting to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as permanent manager this summer when his Real Madrid contract was due to expire but the Italian recently signed a two-year extension in the Spanish capital.

Brazil have now started the process of getting an alternative, starting with the dismissal of Diniz.

The 49-year-old lasted six games in charge of the Selecao, losing his last three games in a row, including a first ever FIFA World Cup qualifying defeat at home to Argentina back in November.

Brazil are sixth on the South America World Cup qualifying standings.

"The CBF thanks Fernando Diniz for his work, his dedication, his seriousness and for the challenge of revamping Brazil," a statement from Brazil's soccer federation said.

Diniz, who alternated the Brazil national team role with that of Fluminense, is likely to be replaced by Sao Paulo coach Dorival Junior.
