Aston Villa Complete Ian Maatsen Signing From Chelsea
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen for £37.5m.
Maatsen ends six years on the books of Chelsea during which he spent loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley and Borussia Dortmund.
He made 16 appearances in total for the Blues and helped Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final last season when he joined them on loan in January.
Dortmund were interested in securing Maatsen's services on a permanent deal but were unable to activate his £35m release clause from Chelsea.
An official statement from Chelsea read: "Ian Maatsen has left Chelsea and completed a permanent transfer to Aston Villa.
"The Dutchman has made the switch to the Midlands and ends his six-year Chelsea stay, which culminated in a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season.
"Maatsen will now continue his career at Villa Park having agreed a permanent switch to Unai Emery’s side.
"We thank Ian for all his efforts at Stamford Bridge and wish him well for the future."
Aston Villa will play Champions League football next season following their fourth place finish last term.
Maatsen is currently with the Netherlands squad at EURO 2024.
