Roma Leave De Rossi In Charge As Permanent Manager
AS Roma have announced that Daniele De Rossi will remain the club's manager beyond the 2023/2024 campaign.
De Rossi has successfully revived Roma's fortunes since replacing the sacked Jose Mourinho in January.
Under the 40-year-old's tutelage, Roma have risen from ninth to fifth position on the Serie A table and hold a 1-0 advantage over AC Milan in the Europa League quarterfinal ahead of a return encounter later on Thursday.
He was initially given a contract until the end of this season but Roma say the former Italy international has been handed the reigns on a permanent basis.
De Rossi has won 11 of his 16 games in charge so far, losing just twice.
A statement read: “After meeting yesterday afternoon with Daniele De Rossi, we are delighted to announce he will continue as head coach of AS Roma after this season and for the foreseeable future.
“In his short tenure as head coach, the positive impact that his leadership has brought to the entire club has told its own story.
“Daniele leads with respect and courage, while his strength and deep-rooted belief in the club are truly aligned with Roma’s values, city and unparalleled fans.
“We will continue to work together as hard as we possibly can to deliver a future that AS Roma’s fans deserve. We couldn’t be happier to build a long-term project with Daniele.”
De Rossi spent 18 years of his playing career with Roma, going on to make 616 appearances, scoring 63 goals and winning two Copa Italia trophies for the side.
Only Francesco Totti, who made 786 appearances for Roma, has played more times for the Serie A club than De Rossi.
