Ranieri Comes Out Of Retirement To Manage AS Roma For A Third Time

The 73-year-old announced back in May that he was ending his career in the dugout after guiding Cagliari to Serie A survival.

Ranieri has however been persuaded by the Roma hierarchy to replace Ivan Juric, who was sacked earlier this week after just 12 matches at the helm.

Ranieri has been given a contract until the end of the season after which Roma will appoint a new substantive manager.

“AS Roma is pleased to announce that Claudio Ranieri is the new head coach of the first team,” a club statement said.

“At the end of the season Claudio will transition into a senior executive role, where he will be an adviser to the ownership on all sporting matters at the club.

"The search for a future coach will proceed over the next months. Claudio will have input in that decision as well.”

Ranieri first managed Roma between 2009 and 2011, and briefly in 2019.

Ranieri has taken charge of a host of clubs in a storied managerial career that includes spells at Juventus, Chelsea, Valencia, Monaco, Fulham, Inter Milan, amongst others.

Ranieri was named FIFA Coach of the year in 2016 after leading an unfancied Leicester City side to a fairytale Premier League title despite being odds on favorites for relegation at the start of the season.
